7 TIPS TO INCREASE ENERGY & VITALITY

Most people appreciate an extra boost of energy. Below are some simple reminders, which can provide ongoing energy.

1. Remember to breathe

Breathing exercises are known to reduce stress, muscular tension, and promote oxygen delivery throughout the body.

A reduction in stress almost always goes hand in hand with improved energy and vitality. Breathing exercises do not need to be time consuming, but are very effective at stress management.  Doing exercise like Yoga will help you focus on the breath and is fabulous for leaving you feeling revitalised and centred.

2. Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables

Fresh produce provides essential vitamins and minerals, required for health and wellbeing.

Fruits and vegetables contain nutrients which support cell function, and ultimately, energy levels. These nutrients help with improved mood, immune function, libido and overall vitality.

3. Drink lots of water

The human body is composed of up to sixty five percent water. Even mild dehydration can affect mental and physical performance.

A general guide for water intake is 40ml per kg of bodyweight, although requirements will vary from person to person. A diet low in carbohydrates, or high in processed foods or alcohol will increase the need for water. Air conditioning and exercise are other factors which increase water requirements.

Proper hydration means a better functioning body and mind. Keep a bottle or glass near you throughout the day, and refill on a regular basis.

4. Get enough sleep

Although this may be easier said than done, there is a lot to be said for a good night’s sleep. Sleep doesn’t just affect energy for the next day, but also for the following weeks.

Sleep is required for healing, mental function, physical performance and wellbeing.

To ensure a good quality sleep: turn off electrical equipment, (including your phone- buy a small bedside alarm click if you need), aim for a regular bedtime, and avoid caffeine and alcohol in the evening.

5. Exercise

This may sound like a contradiction, but exercise actually increases energy levels.

It does so by increasing energy production on a cellular level. Exercise also increases energy by improving circulation, stabilising blood sugars, and increasing endorphin and hormone production.  In this way, exercise has a positive effect on physical performance, mental health and self- confidence. All three are essential for energy and vitality.

An exercise physiologist can help you if you haven’t exercised in some time to find your way back gently and safely, and there are Yoga classes to suit every body and every level of ability.

6. Make time for rest and play

It can often feel like life is a never-ending list of tasks and chores to complete. Whilst the laundry is a necessary evil, it is important to ensure that quality time is spent doing more enjoyable things.

Whether the focus is family time, sports, or reading a good book, stress can be managed by creating happiness in other areas of life. Even just a few minutes a day, focusing on something enjoyable can make a difference to stress levels.

Finding ways to manage stress is crucial to balancing energy and improving pleasure.

7. Consider complementary therapies

There are many ways complementary therapies can improve energy and vitality. From herbal medicine, oxygen therapy in the Hyperbaric, to a relaxing massage, there is a treatment to suit almost anyone.

For an extra boost to your day, it is worth considering professional assistance, particularly if you have a health condition which requires extra assistance.
